This post is a reminder that some of the best children’s digital applications are free for the asking!

Every one of these apps has been previously reviewed by Teachers With Apps and they all still have our vote. Finding great educational apps that are free, is not all that easy. So many new educational apps are released daily. Knowing that, “Not all apps are created equal,” keeps us on our mission to find the best educational apps for your mobile devices. We have given you a quick synopsis of each app; let’s start with one of our near and dear friends, Brainpop

Unknown-21. BrainPop Featured Movie this is your go-to resource for free timely and calendar-aligned digital content. How do you improve perfection? This app does so by featuring a NEW informative and entertaining animated movie everyday, which is accompanied by an interactive quiz and gives new options for accessing its entire collection of movies and quizzes. The curriculum covers everything from from Math, Science, Social Studies, English, Engineering, Technology, to Arts & Music, and Health. You can also choose an optional in-app subscription and enable kids to explore more than 750 videos right on their mobile devices. All of the movies are close captioned, so it’s easy for kids’ to read along.

stat2. Another fabulous free app, Oh No! Fractions – Curious Hat Lab, is still around, new icon – same great game! Explore and learn about fractions with a simple and intuitive interface. Compare and visualize two fractions and guess which one is greater.  Oh No! Fractions is as simple as it gets. This gorgeous app lets the user decide whether the given fraction is less or greater than another fraction. After the child has decided and chosen less or greater, it asks,  ”I’m Sure” and then “Prove It” where a visual representation of the two fractions is shown and manipulated by the child. This representation gives a stunning visual comparison of the two fractions. Students were intrigued by this sassy app and played with determination to prove their answer to be correct. Recently this group of developers headed by Luca Prasso of Curious Hat, released Eye Paint, one of the most innovative and invigorating apps we’ve seen to date that promotes creativity, read TWA’s review of Eye Paint here.

They want to explore how mobile devices can facilitate joyful learning and challenge children. Our students were enthralled by this simple, yet brilliant game – and they were polishing up on their number skills with smiles on their faces! Brilliant job Motion Math!
