The Purpose Of Education (And How It Can Be Transformed)
by Terry Heick
Does education need reform?
In the United States, it’s difficult to respond with anything other than an emphatic, pursed-lipped “mmhmmm.” The challenge in moving forward comes in agreeing with how and where to move from here–perhaps part of the issue being that we feel the need to all be in common, and all agree–which rarely happens, and leaves the decision-making up to the politicians. But we digress.
Steven Wheeler, Associate Professor at the University of Plymouth, published the following presentation that functions as a macro-view of education, including its overall purpose. A key quote, “Young people’s out-of-school experiences with technology can mean that students find the presentation of school curriculum less challenging, less relevant and less engaging.”
