It’s easy enough to have a vision of how 21st century learners might use smartphones–analyzing data, collaborating with global networks, documenting local issues with multimedia–but sometimes some cold, hard data (as subjective as even data can behave) is interesting.

And a look at the infographic below does indeed challenges some conceptions. Some surprises?

  • 53% of students own a smartphone–barely half
  • 83% use it for weather news, but only 45% for technology news
  • 83% of students use it to multitask while walking
  • 92% use it during idle time at school–which surprisingly means around 8% don’t (which is hard to believe barring a dead battery)
